Immigrating to Japan from West Africa, studying Japanese

The Japan Times interviews two recent West African immigrants to Japan, both of whom are studying the Japanese language. Simeon Conteh is a Liberian national and refugee applicant who studies at a local non-profit in Chiba. Elizabeth Onogwu is a doctoral candidate at Yokohama National University who was provided with intensive language training when she arrived.
