MTV host Sam Sarpong dies after jumping from a bridge in California

MTV presenter and Tommy Hilfiger model Sam Sarpong has died after jumping from a bridge in California.

He was the brother of former T4 presenter June Sarpong.

It’s reported police officers had spent seven hours trying to talk him down from a bridge in Pasadena on Monday before he jumped.

His death is being treated as a suicide, however an official ruling will be made following a post-mortem in Los Angeles.

The 40-year-old had a varied career presenting, acting and modelling for some of the biggest brands in the world.

As well as appearing on catwalks for Versace, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana he had been included in the “Hot 100 Young Hollywood with Style” list by Us Weekly magazine.

In a statement June Sarpong said: “I love my brother very much. Sam was an amazing human being. His passing is a loss for the world.”

Sam co-hosted Yo Momma on MTV alongside Wilmer Valderrama who said he was “so sad and so confused” by his friend’s death.

Sam’s acting roles included appearances in Cold Case and Bones.

He hosted backstage coverage of the BET Awards for several years and in 2013 presented the award for best international artist.

Valderrama said the two men had “made memories together that will last us forever”.

New Girl actor Lamorne Morris said Sarpong’s death had left him speechless.

CSI: NY star Hill Harper said it was a sombre day.

“I never saw @mrsamsarpong bitter,” he wrote on Instagram.

“He was always positive and he was always fly.

“Sadly, here in L.A. those are often signs someone is hurting inside.

“Gonna miss you, man.”
